How to find a lawyer for your business that you can trust

Lawyers are a crucial service for any growing business, but they are not always trusted. Nevertheless, for guidance and to prevent any potential lawsuits they are going to be a service that you will want to invest in.

How can I find a lawyer I can trust?

Firstly, you need to establish the type of lawyer that will best suit your business and its needs. Law is such a broad spectrum and so there will always be lawyers that are better in certain areas than others. If you are a technology and media company, you will want a lawyer that knows all about the laws in that area as opposed to, say, this Harrisburg criminal defense attorney, who is more used to helping people who have been accused of crimes to clear their name.

Of course, some specialisms will cross over, but doing your research in to what you need and what different lawyers offer you will help narrow it down.

There are over 10,000 law firms in the UK, so there will likely be a few different law firms in your local area that you can contact and have a chat with. Local is better, if they have the right expertise as this will save on any travel costs and will make meetings a lot easier. You may even find that you can find other local contacts that have used different local firms to gauge an idea of what each is like from others experiences.

Alternatively, to scout out the local firms a little Google search can never go amiss. Take a look at the results when you put in their name and check for any news or reviews linked to them and see if they are more negative or more positive. You don’t necessarily want to be connected to a firm that has lots of negativity surrounding it, but just use your judgement to check if the negative comments are justified or not.

It is important to meet any potential choices face to face to get a good idea about how you feel about them and their offices when you meet. You want a company and a lawyer that appeals to you and the needs of your business and your gut feeling will generally be a good initial indication as to whether they are going to be a good fit!

A good place to start searching if you’re not keen on spending time Googling or checking local directories is the Legal Services Board, an independent group that regulates legal services in England and Wales. They list legitimate businesses and break them down in to specialties.

Finding a lawyer may not always be a quick process, but once you have found one that you can trust your business will see the benefits.
